#ROXMC
The Roxbury High School Media Conference (a.k.a. #RoxMC) is a non-profit event that helps provide journalism, video production, marketing and public relations education to over 200 New Jersey high school students each year. As fields in media/communications are becoming increasingly competitive, colleges are looking for students who have worked with professionals in these industries - the Roxbury High School Media Conference prepares visiting students with a passion for media studies for what really goes on in the business world.
The #RoxMC is an all day event where speakers from various areas of communications will share their knowledge and experience. Our first conference in 2014 featured presenters of high prestige, including keynote speaker Eric Barrow, who worked as an editor and sports writer with the Trentonian, LA Daily News, Daily News and the New York Post.
Over the past few years that the #RoxMC has been established, we have brought in many locals who specialize in various forms of media, including employees from News 12 New Jersey, Good Morning America, and NBC. We also have welcomed media/communications professors from highly regarded colleges, such as New York University, Temple University, West Virginia University, County College of Morris, and the Academy of Art University. Additionally, many of these professionals we invite also happen to be Roxbury alumni returning to their roots and giving students their guidance and expertise.
Roxbury High School students have also been given the opportunities to present at the #RoxMC. At our 2019 conference, we had the TV program's Every 15 Minutes team present about their experiences. In 2017, we also had neighboring high school students from Mount Olive High School present about the school spirit "Lip Dub" they had made for their school that year.
The next #RoxMC is currently being planned. We will soon be on the lookout for speakers, visitors, and sponsors. Please contact us as soon as possible to schedule your visit or discuss sponsorships.
